Institute of Thermal Energy Engineering was formerly known as Department of Energy Engineering founded in November, 1987. The Department of Energy Engineering included two majors of thermal energy engineering and power plant thermal power engineering. In October 1998, Department of Energy Engineering was incorporated into School of Power and Energy Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and was renamed as Institute of Thermal Energy Engineering.
